Trailblazers and Pioneers – Women are all about honoring the numerous women that has made an impact on our lives and shaped our history. Overcoming racial obstacles, their indisputable accomplishments and contributions to America are invaluable. These African American women icons have overcome adversity and challenged the status quo. In this vast diverse group you will find women from all walks of life, military, medicine, politics, music, civil rights, entertainment, and so much more. Because of the courage, resolution, audacity and determination of these women they have proved and triumphed against all odds. They deserve our appreciation and applause.
Many of the women in this list had to overcome both racism and sexism to achieve in their place in law, medicine, banking, entertainment, sports, medicine and so on. Trailblazers and Pioneers – Women are also those that are not recognized because they are not prominent in a lot of minds as well as history books. Nevertheless I have a great admiration for them. Trailblazers and Pioneers – Women is to recognize women like Biddy Mason, one of the first Black pioneers to own land and real estate in downtown Los Angeles or Clara Brown , the first skillful business woman who develop a Black community in Colorado and so on.
These outstanding women, I felt made a name for themselves, but they aren’t household names as much as others. It was just going to be about these type of ladies. But the more famous ladies, that you heard of such as Mary McLeod Bethune, Mary Church Terrell and others are included. Our history doesn’t start and end with these outstanding women, they are a continuation. It was interesting reading about these ladies years ago, but I never came to appreciate their achievements until many years later. Other women can be included or excluded. I wanted to keep this list short and like any list, it’s a matter of preference.
