The So Much History page is entitled to focus on people, various historical periods and subject matters of the Black race. I tried to acquaint myself with these historic Black trailblazers, achievers and pioneers. Clearly, without their efforts, our development as a people would have been severely impeded. Indeed, their lives and stories are an inspiration. It has given me a greater understanding and respect for these prolific men and women, their genius and their contributions.
Many of the faces are familiar, yet there are many that are not quite as familiar. But, it absolutely doesn’t diminish the impact that they have had on our history. Once I learned of their story, and their plight, it made their faces even more familiar. Moreover, these Black women and men has instilled in all of us a knowledge and respect of one’s own history, and has establish a sense of ethnic pride and self-esteem.
The Black presence in America has been felt in virtually every field of human endeavor. So Much History is an on-going effort to give attention to so many Black American women and men that has made a difference. Reviewing their lives, highlights, achievements, events and familiarizing myself with the obstacles in their paths has reminded me of what it took for us to get here.
Benjamin Quarles, the noted scholar in the field of American Negro history, once stated:
“Things that one knows about the past, are of consequence in shaping his present and in giving contours to the future“.
